Yesterday, Tuesday, October 29, the Viking metal band CYGNUS conquered the Plaza de Caycedo in downtown Cali, filling the Zona Verde with their powerful energy and drawing a crowd of approximately 2,000 fans. It was an epic evening where each song hit home, resonating deeply with the audience and creating an unforgettable experience.
The setlist took everyone on a musical journey:
"Valhalla" - CYGNUS opened with this iconic track, ideal for raising horns of mead and celebrating camaraderie. From the first notes, the crowd felt the intensity of the music and was swept up by its power.
"Skål" - The legendary first folk-rock Viking song written by CYGNUS set the crowd on fire. With the collective cheer of Skål, the audience joined together in a Nordic-style toast, evoking a true Viking feast.
"Gästabud" - This instrumental piece, an extension of Skål, immersed the audience in exquisite musicality, with progressive touches and folk melodies that evoked the beauty of a mythical landscape.
"Fenrir the Wolf" - The dark, aggressive vibe of this track marked one of the concert’s most intense moments. With complex progressive elements, tempo shifts, and irregular time signatures, Fenrir pulled everyone into a powerful, sinister experience.
"What Have We Done" - This song stood as the conceptual centerpiece of the setlist, resonating with the audience thanks to its environmental message. Paired with a striking video that illustrated humanity’s impact on nature, it left a reflective mark amid the strength of the metal.
"Odin’s Wolves" - A strong, fast-paced song with an epic chorus that filled the venue with energy. The audience felt the full power of this track, which evoked the might and majesty of Odin’s wolves.
"The One Eyed Wanderer" - Dedicated to the Allfather, Odin, this folk-inspired song enveloped the crowd in mystery and mysticism, with beautiful melodies depicting Odin’s wisdom and shifting forms.
"Raise Your Horns" - CYGNUS closed the set with this fan favorite, perfect for enjoying with friends and raising Viking horns in a toast to life. The finale was powerful and emotional, leaving the crowd eager for more.
As the concert concluded, the audience left not only with the music in their hearts but also with keepsakes—photos with the band, guitar and bass picks, and countless videos and photos that quickly flooded social media.
