Sagas and Stories: "VALHALLA" (Deneb and Ruxx interview)

  1. What was the inspiration behind the composition of "Valhalla"?

Ruxx: The inspiration came from parties, friends, beer, and warriors, creating a festive and adventurous atmosphere.

Deneb: To complement the concept of parties and all that, we wanted to write a song that gives hope regarding the moment of death, based on the Viking mythology of an eternal party where you reunite with your loved ones and friends (but only the brave ones who died fighting). But also, we wanted to inspire listeners to apply this concept in life, enjoying every moment, the here and now.

2. What events or ideas led the band to create this particular song?

Deneb: We were looking to fuse parties, music, alcohol, food, and fun with Norse mythology.

Ruxx: We wanted to capture what could happen at a Viking party in the middle of the forest with a metal band.

3. Was there any personal or cultural experience that influenced the lyrics or melody of the song?

Deneb: We are very into parties and music, so we wanted to capture how much fun we have when the environment is right. The melody came to me while I was taking a shower; I ran out in a towel and told Ruxx to record a voice note!

Ruxx: Culturally, the TV series "Vikings" influenced us a lot.

4. How was the experience of recording with an orchestra in the middle of a forest?

Deneb: It was crazy. Not only because of the orchestra, but we also had about 80 people involved, and for a moment, we realized that what started as a dream had spiraled out of control. It was very exciting and magical.

Ruxx: It was magical. Everything associated with elves, fairies, pines, the cold, and the strings fit perfectly.

5. What were the challenges and benefits of working with orchestral musicians in a natural environment like a forest?

Deneb: The challenges included the lack of bathrooms, mobile signal, and electricity. But the benefits were the elegance and magic that string instruments bring, especially in a natural environment.

Ruxx: The challenge was the distance from home, but the benefit was working with very talented musicians.

6. How do you think the forest environment influenced the atmosphere and overall tone of the song and music video?

Deneb: The forest is everything in this video. It provides the right atmosphere for our interpretation of Valhalla, not as a golden hall, but as the nature we can enjoy.

Ruxx: Recreating the right visual and musical environment was crucial.

7. Is there a memorable moment during the recording that you would like to share?

Deneb: Seeing the girls from the octet play what we composed in such a magical setting was incredible.

Ruxx: I was alone on the set, and a baby white horse visited me. It was a beautiful and strange moment.

8. Can you highlight any special or funny moment that occurred during the recording of "Valhalla"?

Deneb: The iconic lifting of Mjolnir; funny situations like these happen during waiting periods, the typical calm before the storm!

Ruxx: Many trips to the bathroom... there were no bathrooms!

9. Was there any interesting anecdote related to the collaboration with the orchestra or the outdoor filming that fans might find fascinating?

Deneb: It was our first time working with the orchestra, and it was surprising to hear our music played by them live. Regarding the filming, the lack of bathrooms was a fun challenge.

Ruxx: Everything was perfect and beautiful; there isn't a particular anecdote, but it was a wonderful and impactful video.
